Growing up in Limpopo, surrounded by nature, Izak, our founder, had always been passionate about protecting the environment and animals. After working in environmental consulting, mining and corporate, where he saw the environment come second to economic growth and profit, he decided to create a marketplace focused on making consumers and the world more sustainable.
The idea for Shiftr was born during the global pandemic, where second-hand shopping was trending as the world became more environmentally aware. By launching Shiftr, Izak finally has the opportunity to make a real difference in the world and to give others the opportunity to do so as well.
Izak du Plessis is a Bachelor of Science Honours graduate of the University of Pretoria in Geoinformatics. His career includes environmental consulting, mine closure, corporate data analytics and information technology.

Shiftr is a marketplace that sell products rooted in sustainability. We focus on three main categories: Pre-Owned products, Zero Waste Products and Sustainably Made products.
Our product categories are expanding as we grow. Although we welcome any product that is a sustainable alternative, currently the products in our store include:
